The Splendour of Indian Army Uniforms
A Coffee Table Book on the Indian Army's Uniforms
If clothes make a man, the uniform most definitely makes
the army man! What would look like random brass and colour
to the uninitiated is, in fact, like an address and introduction
to a person who can read the signs. Just by looking at
the uniform you can tell a soldier's unit, corps, and
rank, and his medals will even tell you where and how
long he has served his country! This book illustrates
and explains the distinctive styles and the innumerable
uniforms, from the hardy, functional fatigues worn in
combat to the high-maintenance, not-so-maneuverable ceremonial
uniforms of the Indian Army.
The book depicts uniforms worn by all ranks of the Indian
Army from a Sepoy to a Field Marshal, including combat
fatigues and special uniforms. It also describes the various
medals that form a part of a soldier's uniform, and the
gallantry awards and their significance for individual
acts of bravery and distinguished service. The President's
Bodyguard, with its ornate and grand ceremonial uniforms,
has a special chapter dedicated to it.
