A
Testimony of Courage
Memorials of the Indian Army
A Coffee Table Book on the Indian Army's War Memorials.
They say a soldier never dies, he is remembered by his
comrades in arms, who will tell of his brave deeds and
pass it on till legends are born. More tangible tributes
to the brave soldier are Memorials built by a grateful
nation.
All Indian Regiments and Corps have War Memorials, usually
located at the respective Centres where recruits take
an oath to lay down their lives to protect the country.
No other profession asks this of a man, and all men in
uniform honour this supreme sacrifice. The War Memorials
serve as the collective conscience of the Regiment, a
place where a soldier re-dedicates himself. Wreath laying
ceremonies with buglers sounding the Last Post will move
even the most stonehearted spectator.
Less known Memorials, which have been erected on or near
a battlefield, are of particular interest because of their
proximity to the legends they commemorate. Unfortunately,
many are situated in far-flung places, not often frequented
by the general public.
Though
these memorials are maintained and revered by the units
in close proximity,
they are often unknown to the country. This book hopes
to change that
